Current Project Updates

Hello everyone!  Just giving a status of things I'm working on currently.  I recently took a class at FuturePoly for a brush-up on 3D modeling.  I learned so much there and will be working hard at building a gorgeous environment.  I'll document the process in future updates.  I find that having something/somebody to report to gives me more motivation than just working endlessly on my own in a dark room.

The other project I've been working on with a small team of friends can be found at www.projectkassa.blogspot.com.  It's a very cool idea, definitely check out our progress!  My role on the team is the concept artist and supplemental modeler. It's been a blast working with friends on something that everyone's excited to create, where each person plays a pivotal role in the development of the game.  It's given me lots of work to draw out characters and environments and churn those creative juices.

"Shove Aside is an co-operative episodic adventure series following brother-sister duo Gabe and Dani Kassa as they adventure throughout the pacific northwest, facing off against all variety of supernatural creatures. Think a mixture of the show Supernatural and the game Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Shove aside offers great characters who will grow and change based on your choices; choices that have a lasting, meaningful effect on not only the characters but all of the world; co-operative gameplay including puzzles, conversations, and exploration; a pacific northwest setting, and elements of horror directly relating to the evils you’ll be facing. The evil's you'll be facing each episode are based on a different emotion, the first installment is Grief."

Virtue: Indie Speed Run

Hey guys, it's been a while! I just wanted to post some art that I did for a game jam called Indie Speed Run (http://www.indiespeedrun.com/). I was on a team of four with Bryan Bishop, Craig Sutton, and Branden Gee. The gist of the competition was that each team had 48 hours to create a game with two randomized keywords. Ours happened to be "trickery" and "berry bush". We wanted to create something non-obvious, something that was a little different and compelling. So the game we created was Virtue. In the game, you're being led through a series of trials by an omniscient being that judges your morality based on your choices. Through the games you play, you slowly learn that the being is trying to manipulate you into wrongdoing. The depiction of your morality is visually represented as a bush that morphs and grows as you progress through the game.

The omniscient being.

Chinese Character Ideas

My next project is going to be creating a character that fits into the Dynasty Warriors world.  Here's a few ideas I've been throwing around.

Character Description:
This is a Dynasty Warriors character.  He isn't a typical fighter though.  He relies more on cunning and carefully planned tactics.  He is a strategist that heavily relies on magic and mysticism.  He is a wanderer, but he does not have a ragged, worn down appearance.  He is very deliberate in his appearance and personality.

These are the thumbs I started with...

...and this is the character I'm ending with.  I'll have a more tied down drawing of him, but this is close to what I'm imagining.

This is the idea I had in mind for the base he'll be standing on.  There are many cupboards and drawers that hold ingredients, scrolls, potions, things he uses in his rituals and planning.

Lumberjill Project

It's been a while since I updated! Here's what I've been doing recently for my portfolio.

It's based off a doodle I did a while back.

I though the idea was cute and decided to try and bring it into 3D.  After working on a mobile game, I was familiarized a little more with low-poly models, so I tried to keep it under 2000 tris.

Dynasty Warriors Concept

I'm not dead yet!  Here's a concept of a character I want to model.

My goal is to make a design that fits into a Dynasty Warriors game.

I'm going to incorporate a lotus theme a little more into the armor design.  I'm also gonna make it a little more ornate and vibrant, right now it's looking too plain to me.  There'll be a better picture later to follow!

Concept Art: Demigods & Humans

This is the main two characters from my final picture.  Demigod female and human knight, back to back, facing the gods (which will be in the final picture shortly).  I'm tempted to make a ZBrush project out of the demigod female!

Concept Art Class: Colored Characters

So here's my colored characters.  A lot of design changes happened in this stage lol, and a lot of the coloring is rough, but hey, it's something!  I want to go back and do some finessing whenever I get the chance.

Concept Art Class: Characters

Work from week one of concept art class!  Majesty-Realm-Apocalypse, a fantasy story with inspirations from God of War and Lord of the Rings.  First assignment was characters, and here's kind of what I had in my mind.

Here's the goddess of earth and nature.  I liked having the extra arms to give her a more tree-like silhouette.  She has two arms that weild swords, two arms with long grasping fingers, and two arms on top for casting magic.  Her legs end in a bundle of roots, and she plants herself to absorb life from the earth.  Other than that she floats.
Here's the vessel of the god of water.  In my mind, the god of water isn't personified by himself.  He imbues his spirit into dead corpses of sailors, pirates, other people who have died at sea.  The body then possesses his powers and strength to control water.  This guy I was trying to create a sailor that walked the plank (bag over his head, shackles).
Quick sketches of characters (knight, battle mage, healer/scholar?).
